Qatar ends World Cup campaign
Qatar was the first World Cup host country to be eliminated in two games after
losing 1-3 to Senegal on the 28th and the worst performance ever by the host
country on the 22nd.
On Friday, the 2022 World Cup hosts became one of the top two teams in
Group A, making it mathematically impossible to advance to the next round.
The Netherlands and Ecuador each won the first match of the tournament.
Ecuador beat Qatar 2-0 to draw 1-1 on Friday.
Qatar lost 0-2 to the Netherlands on Tuesday and finished the World Cup by
three losses and six goals. Qatar led 7-1.
Qatar's chances of advancing to the tournament were slim, but its elimination
in two matches is nothing more than a huge disappointment for a country that
has been preparing for the World Cup for more than a decade. Qatar's
national football team's infrastructure was built for the tournament and the
national team played at events such as the North American Gold Cup to
prepare for the World Cup.
Qatar will join South Africa as the only host country to be eliminated from the
World Cup in the group stage. South Africa held the opening ceremony of the
World Cup in a draw with Mexico, but beating France in the final group stage
was not enough for Mexico to lead by goal difference. 스포츠토토
And while South Africa was an easy team to cheer for 12 years ago, millions
of people around the world are undoubtedly delighted that Qatar's World Cup
has ended in the group stage, given the myriad controversies surrounding the
tournament. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a number of FIFA
officials took bribes to vote for Qatar as the host country of the tournament.
And after Qatar succeeded in hosting the World Cup, poor treatment of
thousands of migrant workers who helped build the stadium became a black
mark of the tournament, along with the country's poor human rights record.
